Contraception - methods
Upon request, we will be more than happy to provide you with information materials about various types of contraception here at the practice.
Contraception and protection against infection through the use of condoms
Of course, this contraceptive involves the man.
However, sometimes, 'the woman stands alone'.
Condoms can protect against sexually transmitted diseases – such as, for example, HIV – so they should be used in addition to other contraceptives.
Contraception by taking 'the pill'
The first prescription of 'the pill' by your gynaecologist does not necessarily require a gynaecological examination (examination of the inner female organs).
Contraceptive options other than taking the pill
We will be happy to advise you regarding your choice of contraceptive measures. We can offer you a range of different options:
Contraception by the placement of a copper spiral
During your period, a copper spiral is placed in the uterus.
This can remain there for some 3 years. The correct position of the spiral should be checked by ultrasound examination on a regular basis. Please remember that you will have to pay for this examination yourself, since the statutory health insurers do not cover these costs.
Contraception by the placement of a hormone spiral
The hormone spiral, too, is placed into the uterus during your period. The spiral releases hormones for approximately 5 years, which can make your periods shorter and lighter.
Contraception by administering the 3-months' injection
An intramuscular injection is administered to the buttocks during your period. This contraceptive method can also cause the periodic bleeding intensity to decrease.
